No mismatch between EVM and VVPAT slip count: Gujarat CEO

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], Dec 18 (ANI): Chief Electoral Officer of Gujarat BB Swain on Monday confirmed that there was no mismatch between Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) count and Voter-Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) slip count in any of the polling stations of Gujarat.

Speaking to ANI, Swain said, "As mandated by Election Commission, VVPAT counting was carried out at one randomly selected polling station per constituency during counting of votes for Gujarat elections. There was no mismatch between EVMs count and VVPAT slip count in all 182 polling stations."

Earlier in the day, Chief Election Commissioner Achal Kumar Jyoti assured no EVMs were tampered with as far as the Gujarat Assembly polls are concerned.

The EC chief said the questions raised about the tampering of the voting machines had already been answered, adding the voting was conducted by the VVPATs, which enabled voters to see whom they voted for.

Jyoti had also assured there cannot be any tampering with the EVMs.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the election for the 182-member Gujarat Assembly, claiming a clear majority of 99 seats.

The Congress Party trailed in second with 77 seats, followed by the Bharatiya Tribal Party (two) and NCP (one), while independent candidates won three seats. (ANI)
