"No law, order to prevent any public representative from visiting anywhere": Iqra Hasan after SP delegation 'stopped' en route to Bareilly

Sambhal (Uttar Pradesh) [India], October 4 (ANI): After a Samajwadi Party delegation was stopped from visiting violence-hit Bareilly, party MP Iqra Hasan on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, accusing it of suppressing dissent and "denying people their democratic rights".
The SP MP alleged that the administration, "acting under pressure from the ruling party", has been curbing the freedom of citizens and representatives to move freely and voice their concerns.
Addressing the media, Hasan said, "Wherever someone asserts their rights, this government treats them similarly. Ladakh is one of them, and Bareilly is another. The situation in Sambhal, where we were prevented from going, was also created by the administration there under pressure from the ruling party, and this is now being played out as propaganda in Bareilly."
The SP leader condemned the alleged misuse of administrative authority, calling it a "sign of dictatorship".
"There is no law, no authority, no order to prevent any public representative or ordinary citizen from going anywhere. Yet, they are being prevented because a dictatorship is blatantly operating in our country," she added.
Referring to the ongoing protests in Ladakh, Hasan said the government's handling of the situation amounted to a "violation of constitutional rights."
"The government's violation of the Ladakhi people's right to protest and their demands is completely unconstitutional and intolerable," she asserted.
Earlier today, an MP delegation of the Samajwadi Party, including Mohibbullah Nadvi, Iqra Hasan, and Harendra Singh Malik, en route to Bareilly following last week's 'I Love Mohammad' row, was stopped at the Ghazipur border by the Uttar Pradesh Police.
Visuals showed the members of the delegation arguing with the police personnel deployed to maintain law and order.
"We are being stopped from going to Bareilly. This is unconstitutional... The BJP government first oppresses people with great vengeance and then tries to cover it up," SP MP Mohibbullah Nadvi told ANI.
SP leader Iqra Hasan linked the situation with an "undeclared emergency" and said that their visit does not have an agenda.
"We don't understand on what grounds we are being stopped in the way of an undeclared emergency. We request the administration to accompany us. We are not trying to hide anything. We don't have any agendas... I don't know which of its evil deeds the UP government wants to cover up that its not allowing us to go to Bareilly..." she said. (ANI)
