New Delhi [India], March 7 (ANI): Launching an attack on the Uttar Pradesh government over lawlessness in the state, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Thursday claimed that two minor girls who were victims of gang rape, died by suicide in Kanpur.
In a social media post on X, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi said, "Two minor girls, victims of gang rape, committed suicide in Kanpur. Now the father of those girls has also committed suicide."
Comparing the case with that of Hathras and Unnao, the Congress leader claimed that the 'victim's family was put under pressure to compromise.'
"In Uttar Pradesh, if victimized girls and women ask for justice, it has become a rule to destroy their families. From Unnao, Hathras to Kanpur - wherever women were tortured, their families were destroyed. Being a woman has become a crime in this jungle raj where there is no such thing as law left. After all, what should crores of women in the state do, and where should they go?" Priyanka Gandhi added.
Former Union Minister and Congress leader Pawan Kumar Bansal also took a dig at the 'double engine government' in Uttar Pradesh over the rape case incident in Kanpur.
"The Kanpur rape case has put humanity to shame. It shows that the 'double engine government' in UP has bowed down to criminals!" Bansal stated in a post on X.
Questioning the silence of women welfare departments, he asked, "Where is the National Commission for Women? Does the Women and Child Development Minister take it seriously? Is the 150 per cent increase in cases of rape of minor girls across the country during the BJP regime of any significance to the national media?"
"Why are rapists and molesters protected?," the Congress leader asked the BJP.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Bharat Solanki questioned the silence of the media on the incident.
"The heart-wrenching incident of Kanpur gang-rape has shaken souls of people not just from Uttar Pradesh, but across the country. While attacks on women and minor girls have drastically increased during BJP regime, silence of the national media is deafening," Congress' Solanki said in a post on X. (ANI)
