Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], October 9 (ANI): The Chairman of the Odisha State Bar Council, Sitanshu Mohan Dwibedi, on Thursday, strongly condemned the attempt to hurl a shoe at Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai, stressing that no advocate is above the law.
Speaking to ANI on Wednesday, Dwibedi said, "The Odisha State Bar Council has condemned the issue. No advocate is above the law. The judiciary is the temple of justice, and the judge and the advocate are two sides of the same coin."
Dwibedi further informed that in connection with the incident, the Bar Council of India (BCI) has already taken disciplinary action. "In a related case, the Bar Council of India has suspended the license of the concerned advocate and is initiating disciplinary proceedings," he said.
Meanwhile, Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Chitna Mohan on Wednesday strongly condemned the recent attack on Chief Justice of India (CJI) Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai, calling it an unprecedented and deeply distressing incident in the history of the country.
Demanding strict action against those responsible for the attack, Mohan argued that the attack on CJI Gavai sets a "bad precedent" and was reflective of the condition of the Scheduled Castes in the country.
The attack on CJI Gavai has been strongly criticised by most leaders in the political circle.
The incident unfolded as a 71-year-old lawyer, Rakesh Kishore, entered Court Room 1 of the Supreme Court of India on Monday and attempted to throw an object at CJI BR Gavai. He was immediately arrested by the security personnel and escorted out of the premises.
Sources reveal that while being removed, the lawyer said, "Sanatan ka apman nahi sahega Hindustan."
After the incident, the Bar Council of India (BCI) on Monday ordered the immediate suspension of Kishore's practice after prima facie material indicated that he allegedly removed his sports shoes and attempted to hurl them towards the Chief Justice of India during proceedings in Court No. 1 of the Supreme Court at about 11:35 AM.
