Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], Aug 23 (ANI): Former governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Narinder Nath Vohra, on Thursday skipped the oath taking ceremony of his successor Satya Pal Malik in Srinagar.
Veteran politician Malik was sworn-in as the new Governor of Jammu and Kashmir earlier in the day. Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir, Gita Mittal, administered the oath of office at the Raj Bhawan here.
The 71-year-old leader succeeded Vohra, who held the post since June 25, 2008.
Former Chief Ministers of Jammu and Kashmir Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, Union Minister of state (PMO) Jitendra Singh, judges of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, legislators and senior civil and Army officers attended the ceremony.
Malik was the Governor of Bihar before taking charge of Jammu and Kashmir. Before joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2004, he was part of other political parties including the Congress, Janata Dal and the Samajwadi Party.
He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Aligarh constituency in Uttar Pradesh and was also a member of the Rajya Sabha for two consecutive terms.
Jammu and Kashmir is currently under Governor's rule after the BJP and PDP split their ways and the state government fell in June. (ANI)
