New Delhi [India], January 20 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday hailed the appointment of Nitin Nabin as BJP national president, saying that when it comes to the party, Nitin Nabin is the boss, and he himself is a mere party worker.
Addressing a gathering at the BJP headquarters in the national captial PM Modi congratulated Nabin on being elected president of what he described as the world's largest political party and said his responsibility goes beyond managing the BJP.
"When it is about the party, Nitin Nabin is the boss, and I am a party worker. Now Honourable Nitin Nabin ji is the president of all of us, and his responsibility is not just to manage the BJP, but also to ensure coordination among all NDA allies," the Prime Minister said.
Highlighting the importance of the coming decades, PM Modi said, "The next 25 years are very important. This is the period when a developed India is to be built, and it is destined to happen." He expressed confidence that Nitin Nabin would carry forward the party's legacy, adding, "At the beginning of this crucial period, our Nitin Nabin ji will carry forward the legacy of the BJP."
Referring to generational change within the party, the Prime Minister said, "To put it in the language of today's youth, Nitin ji himself is, in a way, a millennial." He elaborated that 45-yer-old Nabin belongs to a generation that has witnessed major economic, social and technological transformations, saying, "He belongs to the generation that received information from the radio in their childhood and is now an active user of AI."
PM Modi added, "Nitin ji possesses both youthful energy and extensive experience in organisational work. This will be very beneficial for every worker of our party."
The Prime Minister also spoke about the BJP's electoral performance, saying, "At times, we have seen that after a long duration, a government finds it difficult to stay in power. But the BJP has broken this trend."
Citing recent electoral victories in several states, he said, "Be it Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh or Bihar, in many states the BJP has won elections with an even bigger majority. The BJP's strike rate in elections is unprecedented."
"BJP is a tradition. BJP is a family. Here, there is more of a 'relationship' than just a 'membership'. BJP is such a tradition that runs not by position but by process. Here, holding a post is an arrangement, and carrying out the work is a lifelong responsibility. Here, presidents change, but ideals do not change. Leadership changes, but the direction does not change," he added.
Reflecting on ideological inspirations, PM Modi said, "Over the past year and a half, we have been celebrating grand occasions such as the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, the 100th birth anniversary of Atal Ji, and the 100 years of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. These are the inspirations that further strengthen our resolve to live for the nation."
Tracing the BJP's organisational journey, PM Modi said, "Under the leadership of Atal Ji, Advani Ji, and Murli Manohar Joshi Ji, the BJP has journeyed from zero to the pinnacle."
He credited successive party presidents for expanding the organisation and said, "I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the previous presidents of the BJP."
The Prime Minister further expressed pride as a BJP worker, saying, "People might think, Narendra Modi is the country's Prime Minister, became Prime Minister for the third time, became Chief Minister at the young age of 50. All this is fine in its place, but something even bigger than all this in my life is that I am a BJP worker. This is the greatest pride."
Earlier today, Nitin Nabin formally took charge as the national president of the BJP.
The ceremony was attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, outgoing BJP national president JP Nadda, several other BJP leaders, and Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled states.
Nabin, a senior Indian politician, is a five-time member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly and former Minister in the government of Bihar. He is widely recognised for his sustained organisational acumen and administrative experience.
The BJP's National President Election process kicked off after 30 out of 36 State Presidents were elected, exceeding the required 50 per cent threshold. The Election Schedule was announced on January 16, 2026, along with the Electoral Roll. As scheduled, the nomination process took place yesterday, January 19, 2026, between 2 PM and 4 PM.
A total of 37 sets of Nomination Papers were received in favour of Nitin Nabin for the post of National President, with proposals from top leaders including PM Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, and Rajnath Singh. (ANI)
