Bulandshahr (Uttar Pradesh) [India], Dec 4 (ANI): The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Tuesday issued notices to the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police of Uttar Pradesh seeking a detailed report in Bulandshahr incident within four weeks.
Two people, including a police officer, were killed during violent clashes over alleged cow slaughter in Bulandshahr on Monday.
Taking suo motu cognizance of the incident, the commission also sought details of action taken against the miscreants and relief and rehabilitation provided to the families of the deceased persons.
In a statement, the NHRC observed, "The incident is indicative of yet another incident of violent protest and rampaging by the unruly mob exposing lawlessness and failure of the administration to tackle the sensitive issues and situations. The contents of the media reports suggest that even the police officers do not appear to be safe and can be easily eliminated at free will of the uncontrolled lawless elements."
"'Right to Life' of the deceased persons have been grossly violated, which is a matter of concern. The safety of the public property and lives of its citizens is the prime duty of the state," the statement added.
The NHRC called for effective and prompt action from the state authorities in such situations so that a strong message could be given to the violators of the law.
Meanwhile, Amnesty India said that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath should take responsibility for the death of the police official while calling for the end of cow-related violence in the state.
Taking note of the incident, Adityanath has announced a compensation of Rs 40 lakh for the deceased police officer's wife, Rs 10 lakh for his parents and a government job for one family member. He has also called for a meeting with officials at his residence in Lucknow later today, over the law and order situation in the state. (ANI)
