New Delhi [India], May 2 (ANI): The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Thursday condemned the naxal attack in Gadchiroli which had claimed the lives of 15 police personnel and a driver.
A private vehicle carrying 15 policemen, who were part of Quick Reaction Team (QRT) and the driver, were en-route from Kurkheda Police Station in Gadchiroli to PS Burada in north Gadchiroli when it was ambushed by a landmine blast triggered by Naxals on the afternoon of May 1.
Calling such attacks as the "grave violation to human rights," the commission stated: "The country's strong democratic values and institutions provide enough space to people with divergent views to function through non-violent means and to endear themselves to the mainstream of social, cultural and political life."
It further advocated that the supreme sacrifice made by all those martyred should not go in vain and the aggrieved families should be suitably compensated. (ANI)
