New Delhi [India], April 25 (ANI): Three former Congress leaders from Punjab who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) recently, have been provided 'Y' category Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) security cover by the central government, according to sources.
As per the sources, the Centre has provided the security cover to Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary, Karamjjit Kaur Chaudhary and Tajinder Singh Bittu only in Punjab.
Congress MLA Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary from Phillaur was suspended from all party positions and responsibilities due to his repeated anti-party statements, despite prior warnings.
Chaudhary had sought the ticket for his family, particularly for his mother Karamjit Kaur, who contested the 2023 bye-election following the death of Santokh Singh Chaudhary, the sitting Lok Sabha MP for Jalandhar and father of Vikramjit Singh.
Devender Yadav, the Congress in-charge of Punjab, Parliament member, and CWC member, issued a letter stating, "Your unrestrained statements, which deviate from party guidelines, tarnish the dignity of your position and harm the party's image. Despite multiple warnings, your engagement in anti-party activities persists. Therefore, until further action is taken, you are suspended from the party and relieved of all your current positions."
Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary has been critical of Charanjit Singh Channi since the latter became active in Jalandhar ahead of the Lok Sabha elections and subsequently received the party's ticket.
Karamjit Kaur Chaudhary, the mother of Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary, who was the Congress candidate from the Jalandhar by-poll last year, joined the BJP at the party's headquarters in Delhi recently. She is the wife of the late Congress MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary, who died during Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra in January last year necessitating the by-poll.
Tajinder Singh Bittu resigned from his post as AICC Secretary-in-Charge of Himachal Pradesh and primary membership Congress party and joined the BJP. (ANI)
