New Punjab DGP vows to tackle terror, ensure citizen’s safety

Chandigarh (Punjab) [India), Feb 7 (ANI): Punjab’s new Director General of Police (DGP) Dinkar Gupta, who took over the baton of the Punjab Police on Thursday, promised to provide a safe and secure environ to the citizens of the state, while listing counter-terrorism as the top priority of the force.

Chandigarh (Punjab) [India), Feb 7 (ANI): Punjab’s new Director General of Police (DGP) Dinkar Gupta, who took over the baton of the Punjab Police on Thursday, promised to provide a safe and secure environ to the citizens of the state, while listing counter-terrorism as the top priority of the force.
Dinkar, who formally took charge as DGP from Suresh Arora at a simple ceremony at the Punjab Police headquarters here, said that he would try to carry forward the commendable work done by Arora, in line with Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh’s vision to make Punjab free from drugs and gangsters.
Declaring zero tolerance against drug abuse during his first meeting with officers, Gupta said that he would implement DAPO and Buddy programmes in letter and spirit. While appreciating the hard work of the police personnel, he said that the Punjab Police was a brave force, which he was proud to lead.
Describing Arora as the best officer of Punjab Police, Gupta said the former DGP was a humble human being and a meticulous officer. “The force was grateful to have had such a dynamic leader, who had served the state with distinction,” said the new DGP.
Gupta said during the tenure of Arora, Punjab Police had cracked down on organised criminal gangs, neutralising as many 51 gangs with the arrest of 255 gang members. “Under Arora’s leadership, the Punjab Police had busted 24 terrorist modules, arrested 115 terrorists, and recovered 06 AK47, AK56, AK74 rifles, four other rifles, and 65 revolvers and pistols,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Arora advised the men to always listen to the grievances of the citizens and try to alleviate their sufferings. During the farewell ceremony, police personnel also presented guard of honour to Gupta and Suresh Arora. (ANI)
