Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], September 7 (ANI): Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi on Saturday said the new Bharat is emerging with a destination in mind, and by 2047 the country will be a developed nation.
"New Bharat is emerging and now it is emerging with a destination, a goal and a resolve that by 2047 we have to be a fully developed nation," Ravi said while speaking at golden jubilee celebrations of PS Educational Society here.
The governor said that Sanskrit is a source of India's roots and also spoke about the need for multilingual experts.
"Sanskrit is a source of your root. It is not that people become Sanskrit literate. It's a time when we need to have multilingual experts--experts in Sanskrit, Tamil, and English.
"We often say that we do this for society; what is society? In our Bharatiya Adhyatm, a family is an extension of the individual, society is the extension of the family and the Rashtra is the extension of society," Ravi said.
The governor said that the colonial British power, along with missionaries, tried to destroy the identity of Bharat by destroying the education system prevailing then.
"British government, along with missionaries, tried to destroy the identity of Bharat. To kill the spirit of Bharat, they killed the education system. They took away our treasures and inscriptions. They fabricated history to give a new identity to people in our country. This was a well deliberate attempt," he said.
The governor pointed out that the British colonial period in India was a period of "extreme atrocities."
"Besides trying to change our identity, that was also a period when they took about a million of our people from this particular place our Tamil Nadu, especially south, as slaves to their colonies, what they call indentured labour. These are yet to be well-researched.
"In fact, in the archives, there are documents that in 1839, 70,000 people of this place put their signature on a paper to the then Governor of Madras asking them to remove the condition that for admission in school, they had to change the religion. That was a period of extreme atrocities," Ravi said. (ANI)
