Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh) [India], October 8 (ANI): Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday announced the launch of two new missions by the Agriculture Department on October 11, with Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan's birth anniversary. Speaking to the media, Chouhan highlighted the government's focus on agriculture and rural development.
Speaking to reporters, Chouhan said, "I am engaged in my work on agriculture and rural development. On 11th October, on the occasion of Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan Ji's birth anniversary, the Agriculture Department is launching two new missions."
Chouhan stated that the Pulses Mission aims to make India self-reliant in pulse production. "The first is the Pulses Mission... India is the largest producer, consumer, and importer of pulses. We need to make India self-reliant in pulses. Therefore, the Pulses Mission will be started. The government has decided that Tur, Urad, and Masoor cultivated by farmers will be procured at MSP. On the other hand, we have observed that agricultural production in many districts of the country is below average," he said.
The Minister also announced the launch of the Prime Minister's Krishi Dhan-Dhaanya Yojana, designed to bring low-productivity districts to average production levels. The government has also launched a mission for natural farming, Chouhan added.
Additionally, he mentioned the success of the Prime Minister's Housing Scheme, under which 19 lakh houses were provided to Madhya Pradesh in one year. He stated that to address complaints about names missing from the list, a new survey has been conducted, ensuring that no one remains without a house.
" To bring low-productivity districts to average production levels, the Prime Minister's Krishi Dhan-Dhaanya Yojana is also being launched from October 11... We have also launched a mission for natural farming.. Under the Prime Minister's Housing Scheme, we have provided 19 lakh houses to Madhya Pradesh in one year, but many people complained that their names were not on the list, so a new survey has been conducted... No one will remain without a house...", he said.
The 'Loknayak' was one of the prominent faces of the Quit India Movement, and he is remembered for leading the mid-1970s opposition against Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, for whose overthrow he had called for a "total revolution".
The Janata Party was voted into power and became the first non-Congress party to form a government at the Centre under his guidance.
He was posthumously awarded India's highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna, in 1999. (ANI)
