New Delhi [India], Oct 9 (ANI): National Commission for Women (NCW) took cognizance of the reports of sexual misconduct in the media and said that it is in the progress of gathering detailed information of the various allegations that have come to light in the media.
"We are also personally reaching out to the survivors via telephone. The commission will give a statement tomorrow," NCW said in a statement.
Earlier, Editors Guild of India took note of alleged sexual harassment and assault on women journalists by their men colleagues and condemned all "predatory conduct by such men".
In a statement, the Editors Guild said, "It is worse when the perpetrators also happen to be enjoying senior or supervisory positions in the profession."
On Monday, Indian Women's Press Corps (IWPC) also expressed concern over rising instances of sexual misconduct in the media fraternity and extended support to all the women journalists and employees who have faced sexual harassment at workplace.
After the #MeToo movement gained momentum in India a number of women from different fields of work have opened up about their harassment stories and levelled allegations against many known personalities. It started with Tanushree Dutta accusing veteran actor Nana Patekar of harassment on the sets of a film in 2008. (ANI)
