Chanditala (West Bengal) [India], October 4 (ANI): The National Commission for Women has set up an official enquiry committee over the acid attack on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) women worker from Bhagabatipur in West Bengal.
In an order from the National Commission for Women’s office, it was stated that “A 50-year-old woman of Bhagabatipur in Chanditala, West Bengal was admitted in Serampore Walsh hospital with serious burn injuries after she was allegedly attacked on Friday night at her home. It is further stated in the reports that the victim, a BJP booth agent during the panchayat elections, alleged that she had been facing constant harassment from TMC-backed goons who attacked her house number of times.”
It was further said in the letter that due to the inaction of the police in the matter, the woman tried to set herself on fire once.
“However, police remained inactive even though complaints were lodged. Fed up with the police inaction, the victim once attempted to set herself on fire in front of police after pursuing kerosene oil on herself. Now, therefore, in the exercise of the powers conferred under section 10 of the National Commission for Women Act, 1990, the commission hereby constitutes an Inquiry Committee,” the letter said,
“Mamta Kumari has been appointed as chairperson of the inquiry committee and Kabir Bose an advocate, as member of the committee,” the letter added.
The inquiry committee will visit Serampore Walsh Super Speciality Hospital on October 4.
“The Committee shall investigate the case in accordance with the procedure laid down under Section 10(1) read with Section 10(4) of the National Commission for Women Act, 1990, and submit its recommendations to the Commission for taking such action as deemed fit against those involved in the case referred above,” the letter further said.
