"Naxalism taking last breath in Odisha": BSF IG Dhaneshwar Kumar Sharma

"Naxalism is taking its last breath in Odisha. There has not been a single major Naxalite activity in Odisha in the last three years. Before the Naxalites could carry out any activity, we broke the backbone of the Naxalites by carrying out regular operations with the help of the Special Operation Group (SOG) and state police," the BSF IG said.

Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], November 30 (ANI): Inspector General (IG) of the Border Security Force (BSF) in Odisha, Dhaneshwar Kumar Sharma on Thursday applauded the decreased Naxalite activity in the state and said that Naxalism is taking its last breath in Odisha.
"As a result, today peace is returning not only in Odisha but also in the bordering states," he said in a press conference held at Bhubaneswar one day before its 59th rising day.
On this occasion, BSF DIG Ashwini Kumar Sharma, DIG Dhiren Kumar, DIG Sanjeev Kumar and other BSF officers were also present.
Sharma further said, "We are working with the Odisha government to root out Naxal activity. A combing operation is being carried out at regular intervals. This is the reason why Naxalite activity has reduced significantly in Odisha today."
"Before the Naxalites can carry out any major activity, the BSF team attacks them and destroys their plans. In such a situation, Naxalites are now dividing themselves into small groups. Behind this is the hard work of BSF soldiers along with the public welfare schemes of the state and central government," he added.
The BSF IG also informed about the measures taken by the security forces to eradicate the spread of Naxals in the state.
"The government has provided education, health, and technical knowledge along with internet service to remote areas. Our effort is to ensure that Naxalites do not spread their foothold in Odisha again. It is the result of the hard work of our soldiers that today there is no leadership of Naxalites left in Odisha. We have effective weapons. We are also using drones if needed to search them. Based on intelligence information, we make our preparations and also make changes as per the need," he said.
"On December 1, BSF will felicitate family members of those jawans who sacrificed their lives during the naxal operation, IG Sharma added. (ANI)
