Nawada (Bihar) [India], September 19 (ANI): In a shocking incident, 20-25 houses were set ablaze by unidentified miscreants in the Mufassil Police Station area in Krishnanagar in Bihar's Nawada.

According to Sunil Kumar, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Sadar Nawada, initial investigations suggest that a land dispute may be the primary cause of the violence. No casualties have been reported in the incident till now.

"On September 18, 2024, an information was received that several houses were burned in Krishnanagar, within the Mufassil police station jurisdiction. Upon arrival at the scene, we observed that approximately 20-25 homes had been set ablaze. Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties so far. Initial findings suggest that property disputes may be the underlying cause. An investigation is underway, and some individuals have been detained. Those responsible for this incident will face severe consequences," SDPO, Sadar Nawada, Sunil Kumar said while speaking to ANI.
Expressing shock over the incident, Bahujan Samaj party Chief Mayawati asked the Centre to aid the victims.

"The incident of burning down many houses of poor Dalits in Bihar's Nawada by the goons and ruining their lives is extremely sad and serious. The government should take strict legal action against the culprits and also provide full financial help for the rehabilitation of the victims," Mayawati wrote in a post on X.

Former Deputy Chief MInister of Bihar and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav also lashed out at the NDA for atrocities against DalitS, adding that the state was under 'JungleRaj.'

"More than 100 houses of Dalits were set on fire in Nawada. There is fire all over Bihar under the rule of Narendra Modi and Nitish Kumar. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is carefree, NDA allies are unaware! The poor are burnt, die - what do they care? Atrocities on Dalits will not be tolerated," Yadav wrote in a post on X.

Condemning the incident, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge took potshots at the double engine government in Bihar, raising concern over the safety of Dalits in the NDA ruled state. Kharge said that the incident is yet another proof of the " jungle raj of the NDA double engine government."
"It is extremely condemnable that around 100 Dalit houses were set on fire, firing was done and everything of the poor families was snatched away in the darkness of the night. The BJP and its allies' utter indifference towards the Dalits and the deprived, criminal neglect and promotion of anti-social elements is now at its peak. Prime Minister Modi is silent as usual, Nitish is carefree in his greed for power and the NDA allies are speechless," Kharge wrote on X. (ANI)
