National Centre for Coastal Research predicts possibility of high waves, erosion along Kerala coast

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], June 9 (ANI): The National Centre for Coastal Research (NCCR) on Sunday predicted the possibility of high waves and coastal erosion along the Kerala coast until 11:30 PM tomorrow.
In light of this, the District Disaster Management Authority has urged fishermen and coastal residents to exercise extreme caution.
Authorities have advised certain precautions which include evacuation from Hazardous Areas. "Residents in danger zones should relocate as per the instructions of local authorities," stated officials.
Authorities have suggested securing fishing vessels. "Ensure the safety of boats and other fishing vessels. Maintaining a safe distance between vessels can prevent collision-related accidents," stated authorities.
The authorities further suggested avoiding beach and sea activities. "The public should completely avoid trips to the beach and recreational activities in the sea," stated authorities.
Meanwhile, the Indian Meterological Department stated that various places across the state of Kerala received rainfall in the last 24 hours. Thrissur district's Vellanikkara recorded 11 cm of rainfall, Kasargod district's Muliyar recorded 9 cm of rainfall, Kozhikode district's Vadakara recorded 8 cm, Idukki district's Peerumedu (9 cm), Thrissur district's Enamakkal (7 cm), Kasaragod district's Kudulu (7 cm), Thiruvananthapuram district's Palode (7 cm), Thrissur district's Peechi (7 cm).
Notably, it has been raining heavily across many parts of South India. IMD on Sunday stated that coastal Karnataka, Konkan and Goa, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry have received heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours. (ANI)
