Nation decks up to celebrate Diwali today

New Delhi [India], Oct 19 (ANI): The nation today celebrates the festival of lights, Diwali. Celebrations are in full force across the nation.

On the occasion, the national capital is not behind either. Houses were seen adorned with decorative lights and garlands. Markets were also flooded with decorative items, Diyas, and flowers on the auspicious day.

To ensure there are no hindrances in the celebration, Delhi Police have tightened security at various public places.

Metro services will be available till 10:00 p.m. today, with the last trains starting at 10:00 p.m. from terminal stations of all Metro lines.

Authorities have also urged people to observe an eco-friendly and pollution-free Diwali.

On the occasion, Twitter brimmed with greetings by major political leaders and other notable personalities.

President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended their wishes to the people.

President Kovind wrote, "Diwali greetings to all. As we celebrate with our families, let us promote sensitivity to others and to our environment."

Prime Minister Modi extended Diwali wishes in a picture signed by him along with a caption in Hindi writing, "Warm greetings to the countrymen on the auspicious festival of Diwali."

PM Modi celebrated the festival with the troops of 15 Corps in Gurez Sector along the LoC in North Kashmir's Bandipora district.

Security forces of India and Pakistan also joined hands by exchanging sweets at the Attari-Wagah border.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu wished the nation peace, prosperity and happiness, and said that Deepawali signifies the victory of good over evil and encourages us to emulate the noble and virtuous qualities of Lord Rama.

Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya saw a massive Diwali celebration 'Deepotsav' at the Saryu Ghat, where a record two lakh earthen oil lamps were illuminated on the banks of River Saryu.

Chants of 'Jai Shri Ram' echoed as actors essaying the roles of Lord Rama and Sita arrived by chopper to recreate Lord Rama's return from 14 years of exile to Ayodhya on the mythological 'Pushpak Viman'.

Countries like Sri Lanka and United Arab Emirates also celebrated the Indian festival.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also celebrated Diwali with the Canada India Business Council.

Eastern states of the country namely West Bengal, Odisha, Tripura, Bihar and Jharkhand will will also be celebrating Kali Puja today. (ANI)
