Nation commemorates 19th anniversary of Kargil victory

New Delhi (India), July 26 (ANI): The 19th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas is being celebrated on Thursday. The day marks India's victory over Pakistan in the 1999 Kargil War and remembers those who sacrificed their lives for the country.

New Delhi (India), July 26 (ANI): The 19th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas is being celebrated on Thursday. The day marks India's victory over Pakistan in the 1999 Kargil War and remembers those who sacrificed their lives for the country.
On 26th July 1999, India successfully took command of the high outposts, which had been lost to Pakistani intruders. The war was fought for more than 60 days.
The three-day celebrations began on Tuesday at the Drass War Memorial in Kargil town in Jammu and Kashmir. On the first day, tributes were paid to the War Heroes by laying wreath at the memorial.
On Wednesday, the veterans of the war and serving heroes shared their experiences during the war at a function. There was a briefing on Operation Vijay battles.
The Army said, "The country celebrates the 19th anniversary of Kargil War. This is also an occasion that invokes feelings of both pain and pride for the families of the brave jawans who laid down their lives protecting the territory of India from intruders."

The main function of the wreath-laying ceremony will be held today.
The Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated every year for three days till 26th July to commemorate India's emphatic victory against Pakistan. It remembers the supreme sacrifice of 500 heroes who laid down their lives and those who are still alive.
President Ram Nath Kovind also remembered the supreme sacrifice of the brave jawans on the day.
He said, "On Kargil Vijay Diwas, every Indian acknowledges the efforts and gallantry of our Armed Forces. We salute the ultimate sacrifice of the martyrs of Kargil, and record our everlasting debt to their families." (ANI)
