New Delhi [India], August 2 (ANI): Asserting that the situation in Manipur is deteriorating day by day, Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Wednesday said that the floor leaders of I.N.D.I.A bloc, including the delegation, which visited the violence-hit state, met President Droupadi Murmu and narrated to her their experiences from the two-day visit.
A total of 31 members of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance, including the 21-member delegation of Opposition MPs which went to Manipur for a two-day visit, met President Murmu today.
"We narrated our experiences from our visit to Manipur before the President. We also told her that the situation in Manipur is becoming more serious day by day," Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said, after meeting Murmu.
The 21-member delegation of the grand Opposition alliance visited Manipur on a two-day visit, July 28-29, which has seen ethnic strife and violence since May 4.
On the first day of their two-day whirlwind tour, the opposition MPs visited several relief camps in Imphal, Moirang in Bishnupur district and Churachandpur and met victims of ethnic clashes.
On the concluding day of the visit, the delegation met Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey in Imphal and handed over a memorandum to her and requested her to restore peace and harmony by taking all effective measures, "where justice should be the cornerstone".
The meeting took place in the backdrop of the Opposition's demand for a discussion on the Manipur situation, as well as a statement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the floor of Parliament.
Earlier, ahead of the start of the Monsoon Session, PM Modi had condemned a purported video that had gone viral on social media showing two women being stripped and paraded naked, saying all the perpetrators behind the incident will be identified and brought to book.
The Opposition has been insisting on a detailed discussion on the strife-torn state under Rule 267. (ANI)
