New Delhi [India], December 1 (ANI): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar on Sunday said the arrest of party leader Naresh Balyan was the result of a fake case.
Speaking to ANI, Kakkar said, "He (Naresh Balyan) has sent written complaints 5 times. He has said he was getting calls for extortion...No action was taken on that, but he got arrested in a fake case."
She also accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of planning an attack on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and getting MLA Naresh Balyan arrested.
"Arvind Kejriwal has constantly been asking questions to Union Home Minister Amit Shah about Delhi's collapsing law and order situation but instead of taking action on this, Amit Shah planned an attack on Arvind Kejriwal yesterday and then got our MLA arrested today," she said.
Aam Aadmi Party MLA Naresh Balyan's lawyer, NC Sharma, stated today that there are no grounds for the AAP leader's arrest. Sharma further expressed confidence in the legal system, saying "We have faith in the law" and announced plans to file for bail
Speaking to ANI, advocate Sharma said, "They had asked for 5 days' remand, but there was no such ground. The court also asked several times what grounds you have due to which you want his remand. Ultimately 2 day remand was given...There is no ground for arrest...There is no sample of the audio, there is no source, only social media has been made the base. We will file for bail and we have faith in the law."
Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court today remanded Balyan, who was arrested by the Delhi Police yesterday, to two days of police custody in connection with an extortion case.
Meanwhile, earlier today, Delhi Police registered a case against an individual accused of allegedly throwing water at Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, an official confirmed.
"A case has been registered against the accused who threw liquid at AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal. A glass and a 500-ml bottle, partially filled with water, have been seized. Proceedings under Sections 126/169 BNSS have been initiated against Ashok Kumar Jha to prevent recurrence of such offences in the future. Further inquiry is underway," Delhi Police stated.
The incident occurred yesterday while Kejriwal was conducting a padayatra in the national capital's Greater Kailash area. (ANI)
