"Must ensure Pakistan does not get additional funding for its Military terrorist nexus," says Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi

Majuli (Assam) [India], May 23 (ANI): Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Friday called for putting economic pressure on Pakistan to ensure its "Military Terrorist Intelligence nexus" does not get any more funding. He also called for putting Pakistan on the grey list of the Financial Action Task Force and putting pressure in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to not give further aid to them.
"Congress party has supported the decision to send multi-party delegations across the world. At the same time, our endeavour must be to put Pakistan back on the grey list of the Financial Action Task Force. We have to ensure that Pakistan does not get any additional funding for its Military Terrorist Intelligence nexus. At the same time, we have to ensure that the IMF has recently passed a decision to grant 2.5 billion US dollars in aid to Pakistan," Gogoi told ANI.
He said that he fears that the money given by the IMF will be used to repair damage to Pakistani military infrastructure which was destroyed during Operation Sindoor.
"Now my fear is the damage that the Indian Armed Forces has caused to the Pakistani military infrastructure. They will repair this damage using the IMF money and therefore, we have to put pressure on the IMF, whose members are US, UK, Germany, France, countries which are close with the Indian government, countries where Prime Minister Modi has visited," he said.
"Yet despite that, they have given 2.5 billion US dollars. So I think there needs to be further dialogue," he added.
Earlier today, sources from the government said that India is "thankful" for the 11 additional conditions imposed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Pakistan, while clarifying that it is not opposed to financial assistance meant for genuine developmental purposes.
"We are thankful for the additional 11 conditions imposed by the IMF on Pakistan. However, we are not against any financial assistance provided for genuine developmental agendas. We have raised questions regarding the timing of the recent bailout package given to Pakistan by the IMF," government sources said.
According to a report by Pakistan-based Express Tribune, the IMF has placed 11 new conditions on Pakistan for the release of the next tranche of the bailout package meant for its struggling economy.
The IMF staff report, released on Saturday, warned, "Rising tensions between India and Pakistan, if sustained or deteriorate further, could heighten risks to the fiscal, external and reform goals of the programme." It added that overall risks to the programme had increased.
On May 9, the IMF completed its review of the USD 1 billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and also considered a new USD 1.3 billion Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF). This brings total disbursements under the USD seven billion programme to USD two billion so far. (ANI)
