Muslims aren't the only minorities, says Rajasthan Home Minister

Udaipur (Rajasthan) [India], Dec 1 (ANI): With demands for reservations for the minority communities growing in a number of states, Rajasthan Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria has come up with a fresh theory to counter that. Kataria said that Muslims cannot be considered as minority in the country as they have a huge population. Instead, Kataria added that there are several castes that are miniscule in number, hence, they should be termed as minorities.

Rajasthan Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria speaking at an event on minorities on Thursday

"We came from small castes which account for only one per cent of India's population, aren't we a minority? We do not have a name anywhere. Why are only Muslims considered as minorities out of the 15 crores Indian population?" Kataria said during an event held on Friday.
The remark comes two days after the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) approached the Bombay High Court for reservation for Muslim community in Maharashtra. The Maharashtra state legislature on Thursday had passed the Maratha Reservation Bill to provide quota in education and jobs under Socially and Economically Backward Category (SEBC). The Bill got Governor's assent on Friday. (ANI)
