New Delhi [India], July 12 (ANI): A day after the Munak canal barrage broke down, Delhi's Water Minister Atishi on Friday conveyed that the repair work at the barrage is underway on a war footing and the levelling and compaction of the broken part of the embankment has been completed.
She further informed that the Dwarka Water Treatment Plant may start operating from Saturday morning.
Taking it to a social media post on X, Atishi wrote, "The repair work of the Munak Canal is going on at a war footing. The broken part of the embankment has been filled with soil; its levelling and compaction has been done. Now the RCC work of lining the canal is going on. It is likely to be completed by 9 pm. After that water will be released from Haryana. It takes 5-6 hours for water to arrive. It is expected that the Dwarka Water Treatment Plant will start operating from tomorrow morning."

Earlier in the day, it was reported that the situation improved in the JJ colony of Bawana in Northwest Delhi after severe waterlogging in the area after a barrage of the Munak canal broke down.
On Thursday night dewatering machines were used to clear waterlogging in the JJ Colony after a breach in the sub-branch of the Munak Canal, which is a part of the Western Yamuna Canal.
A breach in the Munak Canal, led to severe waterlogging in the nearby residential areas yesterday. Its Career Lined Channel (CLC) that runs into Bawana broke, leading to floods in nearby areas.
Delhi LG VK Saxena took stock of the flooding. The CEO-Delhi Jal Board said the breach was being repaired at a war footing and would be completed by Friday evening.
NDRF teams were immediately dispatched to evacuate affected people from the area. The irrigation and Flood Control Department were directed to deploy pumps to drain out water at the earliest and provide additional boats to NDRF as required.
Directions were also given for adequate arrangements to be provided by DUSIB for relief and rehabilitation measures and making available basic minimum services including shelter. The Disaster Management Cell of the Revenue Department was advised to provide relief as per norms.
The Area District Magistrate was directed to deploy a team of executive magistrates to coordinate relief and rescue operations. (ANI)
