Mumbai receives 868 mm rainfall in September till date

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], Sept 14 (ANI): Mumbai has witnessed 868 mm rainfall in September this year which makes it the second-highest rainfall of all time for the city in this month, the highest rainfall was recorded as 920 mm for September in the year 1954.

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], Sept 14 (ANI): Mumbai has witnessed 868 mm rainfall in September this year which makes it the second-highest rainfall of all time for the city in this month, the highest rainfall was recorded as 920 mm for September in the year 1954.
"We are in the middle of the month and it is almost close to the extreme value recorded for September 1954. If good rainfall activity happens in coming days, we may touch the extreme rainfall record that is 920 mm," Neeta, IMD scientist said.
IMD further added that Mumbai has recorded 2366 mm rainfall so far in the year. The average rainfall for Mumbai is around 1800 mm which makes it 26 per cent excess rainfall for the city this monsoon till now. For the suburbs, it has been 67 per cent excess of average rainfall.
The total rainfall received this monsoon is 3422 mm till September 13 in Mumbai division which is more than the normal rainfall of 2051 mm.
The heavy rain in this year's monsoon is in complete contrast to September last year when only 73 mm rain was recorded.
IMD issued a forecast for the upcoming days according to which rainfall activity is likely to continue over Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra, though it may not be up to extreme levels. (ANI)
