Mumbai NCB busts interstate drug syndicate, arrest 2 people

With the arrest of two people, the Narcotics Control Bureau of Mumbai claimed to have busted an interstate drug syndicate and recovered 500 grams of mephedrone.

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], May 2 (ANI): With the arrest of two people, the Narcotics Control Bureau of Mumbai claimed to have busted an interstate drug syndicate and recovered 500 grams of mephedrone.
In wake of heightened security for ongoing general election, in pursuance of intensive technical intelligence investigation, NCB-Mumbai has successfully cracked an interstate drug syndicate operating from Mumbai. Information was gathered through credible sources, and a Mumbai based network was actively involved in mephedrone trafficking. Subsequently, intelligence networks were alerted to collect further details about the syndicate, an official statement said.
After extensive analysis, a Mahim, Mumbai-based person named LG Khan was identified as the local carrier of the drug. During prolonged surveillance, it was affirmed that LG Khan was tasked with transporting a consignment of mephedrone via train, it added.
On April 30, 2024, information was gathered that LG Khan had planned to travel from Borivali Railway Station, Mumbai, along with the drug consignment. Immediately, team of NCB officials proceeded to the spot and setup a perimeter to zero down the suspect with the drug. Soon, LG Khan was physically identified and intercepted, which resulted in the recovery of 500 gms of mephedrone. Spot questioning with a tactful approach, LG Khan disclosed about his handler, named UU Khan, based in the Mahim area of Mumbai.
A follow up NCB team proceeded to the Mahim location and after extensive search in the area, UU Khan was apprehended at his home. Accordingly, both persons were taken into NCB custody, wherein incriminating data has been disclosed and is presently under investigation, it added.
It would be pertinent to mention that UU Khan has been registered in multiple criminal cases against him and was arrested in NDPS matter for which he is currently on bail. He has been staying in Mahim area of Mumbai in an effort to stay away from law enforcement agencies. Further investigation is underway to gather details of other linkages (ANI)
