Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], Aug 22 (ANI): At least four people were dead including a woman and 16 injured when a level-III fire broke out at the Crystal Tower residential building in Mumbai's Parel area on Wednesday morning.
After receiving a call at 8:32 am, fire tenders were rushed to the spot. As smoke started coming out from the upper floors of the building, a crane was also deployed to rescue those trapped inside. The rescued were later taken to the KEM Hospital for treatment.
"Total 20 people were brought to hospital, of which four were brought dead, including one senior citizen lady and four males. Out of 20, two people were firemen. Condition of the injured is stable," said KEM Hospital Dean Avinash Supe.
The rescue operation is over now, confirmed Maharashtra Fire Services Director Prabhat S. Rahangdale.
"Fourteen fire engines are here. Situation is under control now. A complaint will be lodged on charges of criminal offence against the responsible society official. The building has been declared unsafe, and the power and water supplies have been stopped for now," Rahangdale said.
Giving details of the fire, Rahangdale said, "Area around the lift of the 12th floor was the worst affected. Fire in the electrical wiring kept in duct area had caused smoke and heat on the entire floor, because of which people on upper floors were trapped," he added. (ANI)
