Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh) [India], September 19 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Energy Minister Pradhuman Singh Tomar stayed overnight with local residents at a government school in Gwalior district, who were shifted here after their houses were water-logged following rain.
Due to heavy rain in the Gwalior region on Wednesday, many colonies were water-logged and common people were facing a lot of trouble. Following which, Energy Minister Pradhuman Singh Tomar took stock of the situation in the evening and instructed the people to shift to a government high school located in Nau Mahla in the district. Minister Tomar also stayed overnight with them in the same school.
Locals said, "We are tribal people and we are staying in govt school in Nau Mahla as our houses are flooded with water having at least 3-4 feet water inside the house. Water-logging in our houses occurred earlier as well though it was drained with the help of a machine. But this time it was in the worst condition. The minister visited here and assured us that our problems would be resolved. Till then we should stay in school and proper arrangements will be made for us."
"We are getting food here on time and have been told to stay in school until the problem is resolved. We just want to say that whatever the minister has said should be done as soon as possible. We are in a lot of trouble, the minister also stayed with us here, we are feeling quite happy," they added.
Speaking to ANI, the minister said that people always blessed him by considering him as their family member and it was his responsibility to stand with them, so he stayed there overnight.
"People have always blessed me by considering me as their family member; they have stood with me in every situation, so it is my responsibility to stand with my family members, so I am here. Whenever people face difficulties, this sevak (referring to himself) reaches out to his people and under this feeling, I am staying here," the minister said.
"These are tribal people living here for a very long time. They do daily wage work for their livelihood. They are living in small houses here and are unsafe in them as excessive water can reach any time or the house may collapse or they may get stuck, that is why they have been brought here," he added.
"Following the intention of CM Mohan Yadav, that wherever there has been excessive rainfall, people are in trouble, we should go there and ensure the safety of the people. Therefore, I am here with the same sentiment," the minister further said.
He further added that the work of draining water out from the localities and settlements was underway and in many localities it was drained out by the district administration. Instructions were given that if any poor person is in trouble then he should be given relief, the work for the same was going on. (ANI)
