Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh) [India], November 5 (ANI): The Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued a notice to several top officials, including the state Chief Secretary and Director General of Police (DGP), concerning temples located on the premises of police stations across the state.
During a hearing on Monday for a writ petition filed by Om Prakash Yadav, a division bench comprising Chief Justice Suresh Kumar Kait and Justice Vivek Jain issued the notices and imposed a stay on ongoing construction of religious sites within police station premises across Madhya Pradesh.
According to petitioner's counsel, Satish Verma, notices have been issued to the state Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary of the Department of Home, Principal Secretary of the Department of Urban Administration and Development, the DGP of Madhya Pradesh, the Jabalpur Collector, the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Jabalpur, and the officers in charge of four police stations in Jabalpur: Civil Lines, Vijay Nagar, Madan Mahal, and Lordganj.
"A division bench of Chief Justice Kait and Justice Jain has issued a notice in response to a writ petition regarding the construction of religious sites, specifically temples, within police stations across the state. The petitioner has alleged that police station heads are constructing illegal religious sites inside police stations, which is a violation of the Supreme Court's orders," Verma told the media.
The court has ordered a stay on the construction of religious sites within police station premises across the state. Advocate Verma added that the next hearing is scheduled for November 19.
Additional Advocate General for the state, H.S. Ruprah, appearing on behalf of the respondents, accepted the notice and requested time to gather necessary instructions.
"Until the next hearing date, both parties shall maintain the status quo," the court directed. (ANI)
