Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], August 24 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav participated in the Raksha Bandhan programme organised in the Huzur assembly constituency area in Bhopal on Saturday and addressed the gathering of the women.
Despite the rainy weather in the state capital, a substantial number of women participated in the event. They tied Rakhi to the chief minister and also presented a grand Rakhi to him, adding to the festive spirit on the occasion.
"The Madhya Pradesh government is committed to women's empowerment. The state is actively running numerous welfare programmes to support women. To celebrate and honour women, Raksha Bandhan festivities are being organised across communities and government levels. There will be a significant increase in women's representation in the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, and local bodies in the future. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is spearheading a nationwide campaign for women's empowerment," CM Yadav said.
The chief minister highlighted that in Indian culture, the mind holds greater value than material wealth. While Lakshmi is worshipped once a year during Diwali with hopes for prosperity, the numerous festivals throughout the year honour various deities with heartfelt reverence.
"Following Raksha Bandhan, we eagerly anticipate Janmashtami, which celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna. Approximately 5,000 years ago, Lord Krishna honoured Draupadi as his sister, underscoring the sacred bond between brothers and sisters. Each of our festivals carries profound significance and Raksha Bandhan is a time to honour and respect our sisters, a sentiment that continues as we approach Janmashtami," the CM said.
He also noted that some individuals (referring to Congress) opposed to cultural traditions were criticising the celebration of Janmashtami.
Meanwhile, BJP MLA from Huzur constituency Rameshwar Sharma has remarked that CM Yadav is immensely popular among women, often presenting them with gifts.
He highlighted that CM Yadav implemented various welfare programmes benefiting not just women but all segments of society. (ANI)
