Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh) [India], December 13 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav offered prayers at Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain after taking the oath of office on Wednesday.
CM Yadav and BJP MLA from Ujjain North assembly seat, Anil Jain, offered prayers to Baba Mahakal and performed an Aarti inside the sanctum sanctorum.
The chief minister, who was administered his oath of office by the Governor, was then pictured sitting inside the Nandi hall and paying obeisance to the deity.
The priests were seen a hearty welcome to the chief minister as he arrived at the popular shrine.
CM Yadav also visited the cabin of the Mahant of Mahakaleshwar Temple, Vineet Giri, and exchanged greetings with him.
The chairman of the Temple Committee and Ujjain Collector, Kumar Purushottam, also extended a warm welcome to the chief minister by presenting him with a shawl and a replica of Baba Mahakal.
Speaking to ANI, CM Yadav said, "Today, I came to worship Baba Mahakal as we seek his blessings before venturing on any work. Today, there will be a meeting of our cabinet and after seeking the blessings of the deity, I will head straight to Vallabh Bhawan (state secretariat) for the meeting."
Earlier in the day, Governor Mangubhai C. Patel administered the oath of office to CM Yadav at Motilal Nehru Stadium, Lal Parade Ground in the state capital, Bhopal.
BJP leaders Jagdish Devda and Rajendra Shukla also took oath as the deputy chief ministers of Madhya Pradesh at the event.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda and Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, among others, attended the event.
Earlier, Mohan Yadav said he would follow in the footsteps of Prime Minister Modi and his predecessor Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
"Our government will follow in the footsteps of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I come from the land of King Vikramaditya and I am committed to the progress of the state and fulfilling the aspirations of crores of our citizens. We will replicate the governance model as was seen during the reign of King Vikramaditya," Yadav told ANI.
Madhya Pradesh went to poll for 230 assembly seats in a single phase on November 17 and the counting of votes was conducted on December 3.
The BJP won on a resounding mandate, bagging 163 seats, while the Congress finished a distant second at 66 seats. (ANI)
