MP by-polls: Congress bags both Kolaras and Mungaoli assembly seats

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], Feb 28 (ANI): The Congress on Wednesday has bagged the Kolaras along with Mungaoli assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh.

It is the fourth consecutive victory of Congress after winning Ater and Khajuraho constituencies in 2017.

Congress' Mahendra Yadav has defeated former MLA and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Devendra Jain by 8083 votes in Kolaras constituency.

In Mungaoli Congress candidate Brajendra Singh Yadav defeated BJP candidate Baisahab Yadav by 2124 votes.

Both the constituency saw high voltage campaigns from the ruling BJP and Congress. While Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan led the BJP campaign with a host of ministers, Congress MP Jyotiraditya Scindia led the Congress campaign.

Both the seats fall under part of Guna Lok Sabha seat, which is represented by Congress leader Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia.

Scindia has termed the victory of Congress over the BJP as "victory of truth and development".

"People have taken a decision. It's victory of truth and development. The government which had not seen the face of Mungaoli in 14 years camped there with their entire cabinet during elections," Jyotiraditya Scindia told ANI.

There was 77.25 percent voting recorded in Mungaoli and 72.82 percent in Kolaras on Saturday.

The assembly seats fell vacant after the death of sitting Congress MLAs Mahendra Singh Kalukheda (Mungaoli) and Ram Singh Yadav (Kolaras). (ANI)
