Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh) [India], January 23 (ANI): An alleged abduction incident reported from Gwalior district has been exposed as a well-planned conspiracy of a criminal gang, resulting in the police arresting four accused, including the woman who was initially believed to be the victim, a police officer said on Friday.
The incident was reported in the Dal Bazaar area, under the jurisdiction of Kotwali police station, in the district, on Thursday evening. A CCTV video of the incident also surfaced on social media. It created panic in the area, prompting immediate police action on the matter.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dharmvir Singh told ANI, "Yesterday, we received information that a woman was forcibly being abducted from a car in the district. Acting on it, the police immediately swung into action and the subsequent investigation of the matter revealed that it was not an abduction but the woman was part of the criminal gang. Four people, including the woman, have been arrested."
"These accused used to lure unmarried men with the promise of marriage, take money from them, and then stage a fake wedding and register the marriage through a notary. Thereafter, they disappear with the money. The same thing happened in this case," the officer said.
He further added, "A young man was approached for marriage, and Rs 2,00,000 was taken from him. After the wedding notary was completed, they created a story and staged a fake abduction. This is a professional gang that commits crimes in a well-planned manner."
"These accused have committed similar incidents in Rajasthan as well. The woman who was said to be abducted is also a part of this gang and has been arrested. The other three accomplices who were present at the scene have also been arrested," SSP Singh said.
These accused are residents of Morena and the Hazira area of Gwalior. Further investigation into the matter is underway to determine where else they have committed similar crimes, he added. (ANI)
