Madurai (Tamil Nadu) [India], August 6 (ANI): Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party president K Annamalai took a swipe at the state's ruling DMK, saying that "the money looted by ministers in government" is enough to pay the debts of both Central and state governments.
“The money looted by the DMK ministers is enough to pay the debts of both the Central and the Tamil Nadu governments,” the state BJP chief said in Madurai.
Annamalai criticised Chief Minister MK Stalin for retaining Senthil Balaji as a minister without portfolio in the Tamil Nadu Cabinet despite the latter being in Judicial custody in an alleged 2015 cash-for-jobs scam.
“Minister Senthil Balaji, who is in prison, is being paid a salary. So, Stalin was also a criminal. The DMK ministers have looted so much money,” Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday conducted raids at the residence of Senthil Balaji's personal assistant Shankar in Karur district in connection with its ongoing money laundering investigation. The ED officials have taken two bags of documents from his house.
The ED had arrested Senthil Balaji last month in connection with the cash-for-jobs scam that occurred in the state's transport department, and he continues to be a Minister without portfolio.
The ED had arrested Balaji in connection with an Enforcement Case Information Register (ECIR) filed under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act in 2021.
The ECIR was registered on the basis of three FIRs lodged against him by the local police in 2018 for his alleged involvement in a cash-for-job case when he was the Transport Minister in Jayalalithaa’s Cabinet in 2015. (ANI)
