"Moment of great pride": Son of Padma Bhushan awardee and veteran BJP leader VK Malhotra

New Delhi [India], January 25 (ANI): Ajay Kumar Malhotra, son of veteran BJP leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra, who has been conferred the Padma Bhushan posthumously, described the honour as a moment of immense pride for the family. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Padma Awards committee for recognising his father's contributions.
Recalling his father's long public life, Ajay Kumar Malhotra said the 70-year political journey was marked by both struggle and significant achievements. He said the recognition was deeply meaningful for the family and they were thankful for the honour.
"This is a moment of great pride, and we express our sincere gratitude and thanks to our Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the team behind the Padma Shri Awards. His (VK Malhotra) 70-year political life was marked by struggle, but also by remarkable achievements. He has been honoured today, and we are very grateful for this," Ajay Kumar Malhotra told ANI.
Veteran BJP leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra, passed away on September 30, 2025 was known for his ideological commitment and significant contributions to strengthening the BJP, especially in Delhi, and was widely respected across party lines.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a message, congratulated all the Padma awardees, asserting that their excellence, dedication and service across diverse fields enrich the fabric of the society.
"Congratulations to all the Padma Awardees for their outstanding contributions to our nation. Their excellence, dedication and service across diverse fields enrich the fabric of our society. The honour reflects the spirit of commitment and excellence that continues to inspire generations," PM Modi wrote on 'X'.
The Padma Awards, one of the highest civilian honours of India, are announced every year on the eve of Republic Day. The Awards are given in three categories: Padma Vibhushan for exceptional and distinguished service; Padma Bhushan for distinguished service of higher order and Padma Shri for distinguished service in any field of activity.
