Modi Govt. is 'a government of excuses': Congress

New Delhi [India] Oct 22 (ANI): The Congress on Sunday dubbed Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) dispensation as a 'government of excuses'.

Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, "It's (Modi government) a government of excuses, by excuses, for excuses, and for excuses. Every time something is not done, they say we were obstructed."

He was reacting on Prime Minister Modi's statement earlier in the day in Gujarat that he had to face the hostility of the Centre when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2012.

Then the Congress was heading the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at Centre and Prime Minister was Dr. Manmohan Singh.

Talking to ANI, Singhvi said, "Unfortunately, the head of the government (Prime Minister Narendra Modi), ruling party's president (Bharatiya Janata Party President Amit Shah) suffer from imaginary persecution complex. They blame everything which they are not able to achieve or do to the past governments."

He further accused that Prime Minister Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were insecure and worried.

"They are consistently finger-pointing, they are insecure, they are consistently worried, and therefore they think only of the Congress and not of the positive policies which they have either proclaimed and not fulfilled or have been unable to fulfill," the Congress spokesperson asserted.

After inaugurating Phase 1 of the RO RO (Roll on, Roll off) ferry service between Ghogha and Dahej in Gujarat, Prime Minister Modi told a rally that "when I was serving as the chief minister of Gujarat in 2012, I faced hostility from the then Central Government. Efforts were made to stall industries and the state's growth. Over the last three years, we have changed that and given importance to the development of Gujarat".

Singhvi brushed off Prime Minister Modi's charge by saying that why were these complaints not made when he was the Chief Minister.

"As a Chief Minister of a state if he was so obstructed, was he so weak, was he without Constitutional powers as the head of the state that he couldn't take any action? Why were these complaints not made when he was the chief minister?" Singhvi questioned.

Gujarat is witnessing high voltage political activities as it has to go for polls by the end of this year.

The 14th legislative assembly election in Gujarat is to be held by the end of 2017 as the term of 13th assembly ends on January 22, 2018.

While the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leaving no stone unturned to retain power in Gujarat, the Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi is heading his party's poll campaign in Gujarat. He is eyeing to dethrone the ruling BJP in Gujarat. The last Congress government in Gujarat was led by Chhabildas Mehta from February 17, 1994 to March 13, 1995.(ANI)
