Morena (Madhya Pradesh) [India], Oct 16 (ANI): Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of favouring a handful of industrialists while ignoring larger interests of farmers and youth.
Referring to different fugitive economic offenders who have fled the country in last few years, Gandhi scion at a public rally here said: "Rs 3,50,000 crore which is equal to 10 times the fund required for MNREGA has been waived by Narendra Modi government as part of loans given to 15 richest Indians, and when farmers request for some loan relief, the government refuses it on the pretext of having no such policy."
Gandhi also made promises of waiving farmers' loans in the state and providing jobs to the youth on Congress coming to power. "We are going to make government in Madhya Pradesh and within 10 days Congress chief minister will waive loans of farmers in the state. Our chief minister will devote 18 hours in a day to ensure that youth of the state get employment. I won't make any promises of creating two lakh jobs but I can assure you that Congress chief minister will work very hard to create employment opportunities. In every district, we will set-up food processing units near farmlands, so that farmers can sell their products to these units. It will create employment opportunity for our youth and would benefit farmers as well. When Congress government comes to power, we will also create high-quality colleges and hospitals."
Congress president also raised the Rafale deal issue during the public rally while criticising the government for allegedly favouring Anil Ambani's venture instead of the Hindustan Aeronautics Company (HAL). He also mocked at the Prime Minister.
He also made allegations of rampant corruption in the state of Madhya Pradesh and claimed that future of the state's youth is in the dark because nothing happens in the state without paying a bribe.
He said, "In Madhya Pradesh, if you want to execute anything, such as getting a house under Indira Awas Yojana, registering name in BPL or want to give exam in university, you have to pay money. Our youth is honest and works hard to prepare for their exam but during the exam, if they do not pay money they are not qualified. This is the truth of Madhya Pradesh."
He also criticised Prime Minister Modi for his silence on the allegations against his minister saying, "Prime Minister Modi talks of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao but when complaints come against his minister he remains silent. When UP MLA is accused of rape, both Yogi (Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath) and Modi remained silent."
The election in Madhya Pradesh is being seen as a direct political battle between the incumbent BJP and the Congress. The counting for single phase assembly polls in the state will take place on December 11. (ANI)
