Moderate fog covers parts of North India, affecting visibility: IMD

New Delhi [India], December 29 (ANI): Moderate fog covered many parts of east Uttar Pradesh, some parts of west Bihar, West Uttar Pradesh and in isolated pockets of Northwest Rajasthan, Punjab, southeast Uttarakhand, Assam, Haryana and Delhi, the India Meteorological department said.
According to the IMD, "The visibility recorded (at 1730 hours IST of today)(<=500 m): Uttarakhand: Pantnagar-200; Punjab: Ludhiana-200; Haryana: Bhivani-500; Delhi: Safdarjung-500; UP: Bareilly, Bahraich and Prayagraj-200 each, Aligarh, Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Fursatganj, Babatpur & Sultanpur-500 each".
The visibility at Rajasthan's Ganganagar was 500, Bihar's Gaya was 200, Muzaffarpur and Patna 500 each, and Assam's Haflong was 200, the IMD added.
Meanwhile, Delhites woke up to a hazy morning on Friday as the cold wave maintained its grip in Northern India.
Although the fog conditions at the Indira Gandhi International Airport improved slightly; the lowest visibility was recorded at 150 meters, while the Runway Visual Range (RVR) is in at a range of 400 meters to 800 meters, as per the India Meteorological Department.
Due to the thick fog, several flights in the Delhi Airport were delayed. The low visibility also delayed the arrival and departure of several Delh-bound trains.
A forecast by the Met Department suggested that visibility may reduce to 0050 meters in very dense fog and it may improve to 0400 meters in moderate fog today at the IGI airport."
Passengers complained of difficulties and inconvenience caused due to delays in flights and trains.
The India Meteorological Department has predicted dense to very dense fog conditions across North Indian states for the next two days. (ANI)
