Mobile Internet services suspended in J&K

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], Jan 26 (ANI): Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday suspended mobile and internet services in Kashmir valley until further notice, due to security reasons.

Internet services on mobile phones and data cards were also suspended as a part of the security drill.

This was the first time that Internet services were suspended in the Kashmir Valley before Republic Day, although it is a normal practice by the authorities to suspend such services on Republic Day and Independence Day respectively.

Security has been beefed up in various locations across the Kashmir Valley, including in Srinagar, to prevent any untoward incidents.

This year, the Republic Day function will be held at the Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium instead of the regular venue, Bakshi Stadium. The area around the cricket stadium has been cordoned off for the full rehearsal of the Republic Day celebrations. (ANI)
