MHADA responsible for Bhendi Bazaar building collapse: BMC Mayor

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], August 31 (ANI): The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor on Thursday blamed the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) for the collapse of the three-storeyed building collapse incident at Mumbai's Bhendi Bazaar.

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], August 31 (ANI): The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor on Thursday blamed the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) for the collapse of the three-storeyed building collapse incident at Mumbai's Bhendi Bazaar.

"It was a MHADA building; they are responsible," BMC Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar said, when asked about who was reponsible for the mishap.

Meanwhile, the death toll in the building collapse has risen to 15. At least 34 people have got injured and 10 to 15 are still suspected to be trapped in the debris.

The rescue operation is underway.

The Husaini building, located near J.J. junction in the Pakmodia Street of Mumbai's Dongri area, collapsed earlier today.

The residential building situated Bohari Mahal, falls under the jurisdiction of the J.J. Marg Police Station.

The pre-monsoon survey had identified 791 buildings of the city as the 'most dangerous'. (ANI)
