Mehbooba urges policemen to not attack militants' families

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India] October 25 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday urged police to not attack the families of militants.

"Militants kill people, police and burn their houses. But the security forces or police should not attack the families of militants as they attack theirs," the Chief Minister said while speaking at the passing out parade of recruits at the police training centre in Ganderbal district.

She added, "Police must maintain the difference."

Although the police were facing difficulties in discharging their duties, they had set an example of discipline and sacrifice, the chief minister said.

"As we are keen followers of the law, I should not get a complaint that the 'militants are destroying so we will do the same'," she said.

She further said efforts must be made to ensure that local militants surrender.

Mufti's statements came hours after Hizbul commander Riyaz Naikoo issued a warning to police against attacking the families of militants in Kashmir. (ANI)
