Mehbooba for Indo-Pak talks, says 'peace should be given opportunity'

Srinagar [Jammu and Kashmir] [India], Feb 18 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday said India and Pakistan should talk to each other and mutually solve the Kashmir issue.

"Guns cannot solve any problem, only talks can. Conditions at the border are not good. Both the countries should talk and there should be a ceasefire. Peace should be given an opportunity," the Peoples Democratic Party chief said.

The Chief Minister's statement comes amid daily border skirmish between India and Pakistan, and Sunjwan army base camp attack in Jammu region. At least six persons were killed and many others injured in the attack blamed at Pakistan based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) group.

India and Pakistan have fought several wars, precisely three, over Jammu and Kashmir which is claimed by both the countries.

Several comprehensive dialogue processes have been initiated by various governments, which have every time been dropped following militant attacks. India blames Pakistan for supporting militancy in Jammu and Kashmir while Islamabad asserts that New Delhi encourages militancy in its Gilgit Baltistan and Balochistan region.(ANI)
