Meghalaya CM discusses Bangladesh's situation with Amit Shah

Meghalaya Chief Minister Sangma Conrad met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the national capital on Monday and reviewed the ongoing situation in Bangladesh and its implications for the North East.

New Delhi [India], August 12 (ANI): Meghalaya Chief Minister Sangma Conrad met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the national capital on Monday and reviewed the ongoing situation in Bangladesh and its implications for the North East.
"HM Amit Shah ji today reviewed the ongoing situation in Bangladesh and its implications for the North East. The concerns and apprehensions of our people were raised during the meeting. GoI is committed to keeping our borders safe and appeals to all to maintain peace and harmony," Meghalaya CM posted on X.
The meeting, which also included Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, addressed growing concerns among residents in the border regions.
Meanwhile, the Office of the Home Minister posted on X, "The CM of Meghalaya, Sangma Conrad and Deputy CM Prestone Tynsong met the Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah today."
Bangladesh is facing a fluid political situation with Sheikh Hasina, tendering her resignation from her post on August 5 in the wake of mounting protests.
In Meghalaya, the NPP-led alliance, with the support of 45 MLAs two of the BJP has staked claim to form the government in the state last year.
Sangma's NPP won 26 seats in the Assembly elections and formed the government as the chief minister for a second consecutive term.
Sangma won from the South Tura constituency with a margin of 5,016 against Bharatiya Janata Party's Bernard N Marak, as per the data shared by the Election Commission of India on March 2, 2023.
United Democratic Party (UDP) bagged 11 seats, Congress won five seats. Trinamool Congress, which had inducted all Congress MLAs in the previous assembly, also got five seats.
BJP, People's Democratic Front and Hill State People's Democratic Party bagged two seats each. Voice of the People Party got four seats. Two seats were won by independent candidates.
BJP and NPP were partners in the outgoing government but fought the 2023 assembly polls separately. (ANI)
