Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], March 15 (ANI): In the backdrop of the infamous "Guest House" incident of Lucknow that took place on 2 June 1995, speculations are rife that BSP chief Mayawati might refrain from campaigning for the SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav in his stronghold of Mainpuri.
The alliance will begin the poll campaign with a joint rally of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati at Deoband on 7 April in which RLD chief Ajit Singh will also be present.
SP and BSP are contesting the Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh in alliance posing a formidable challenge to the BJP which among the workers of both SP and BSP, who are in alliance for the Lok Sabha polls 2019, that almost swept the 2014 polls with bagging 73 seats from the state. While SP had got just five seats and BSP drew a blank.
As per the seat-sharing agreement, SP is contesting 37 seats and BSP 38. Three seats have been given to the RLD--Mathura, Muzaffarpur, and Bagpat. Two seats--Rae Bareli and Amethi--have been left for the Congress.
The infamous Guest house incident took place when Mulayam Singh Yadav was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. After the incident, the relations between the BSP chief and Samajwadi Party leaders saw a new downfall to the extent of both parties locking horns with each other until recently when SP and BSP forged an alliance to take on BJP in Lok Sabha elections 2019.
The BSP chief campaign outside the state will start from 2 April from Odisha. In the party meeting held yesterday at the state office in Lucknow, Mayawati divided the state into 6 sectors for Lok Sabha elections instead of 2 as earlier.
Uttar Pradesh will go for polls during all the 7 phases of the election to be held on April 11, April 18, April 23, April 29, May 6, May 12 and May 19. Counting of votes will be done on May 23. (ANI)
