Kathua (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], Jan 7 (ANI): In a bid to reduce carbon output and halt global warming as per the Paris Agreement on the climate change, the Jammu and Kashmir government launched a mega-plantation drive in the valley.

Taking their first step in this direction, the government planted more than 15000 plants on Jammu-Pathankot National Highway in Kathua district.

The Social Forestry Department oragnised the Mega Plantation drive on National Highway 44, which was inaugurated by Forest, Ecology and Environment Minister Choudhary Lal Singh.

More than 15000 plants of various species including flowers, ornamental and fruits were planted with the assistance of thousands of the participants.

Singh on the occasion while interacting with media said that they are working to make environment pollution free and to reduce more than 20 percent of carbon emission from the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

"Our work is to make people aware of the importance of plantation. People across the nation are suffering due to lack of plantation initiatives. So as per the promise made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we have taken this initiative," said Singh.
