Maratha Reservation: 170 protestors granted bail

Pune (Maharashtra) [India], August 14 (ANI): The Pune Sessions Court on Tuesday granted bail to 170 people, arrested for rioting and arson during the Maratha quota agitation in the city on August 9.

Pune (Maharashtra) [India], August 14 (ANI): The Pune Sessions Court on Tuesday granted bail to 170 people, arrested for rioting and arson during the Maratha quota agitation in the city on August 9.
On August 10, the Pune police arrested a total of 194 people, which included two minors and five women. On the same day 192 accused were produced in the court, of which 21 people were granted bail with a surety amount of Rs. 15,000, while 50 were sent to a two-day police custody, eight were sent to police custody and the remaining 113 were sent to magisterial custody.
Violence erupted in the city during a state-wide bandh was called by Maratha Kranti Morcha.
The Maratha Kranti Morcha demanded reservation in government jobs and education. Besides reservation, the outfit demanded the decision on the Maratha quota at the earliest, loan waiver, justice in Kopardi rape case and a solution to unemployment in their community.
The outfit also demanded that all cases against Maratha protesters be taken back and urged for action against the officers responsible for firing and lathi charge during the state-wide protest on July 25. (ANI)
