New Delhi [India], July 29 (ANI): Congress MP Manish Tewari gave an adjournment notice on Monday in the Lok Sabha, urging discussion on the border situation and huge trade deficit with China.
In his letter to the Secretary-General of Lok Sabha, Tewari highlighted "ongoing border clashes between India and China" since 2019 and c that China recently rejected the inauguration of the Seva tunnel and claimed parts of Arunachal Pradesh as its territory.
"That this House do suspend Zero Hour and relevant rules relating to Question Hour and other businesses of the day to have discussion on the border situation and the huge trade deficit with China," it stated.
"Since 2019, there have been ongoing border clashes between India and China, with reports of Chinese troops blocking access to patrolling points in Eastern Ladakh. Recently, China rejected the inauguration of the Seva tunnel and claimed parts of Arunachal Pradesh as its territory," the letter added.
Tewari also urged the government to provide details on efforts to resolve the border dispute and "protect India's integrity against Chinese aggressions."
"Additionally, in 2023-24, India's trade deficit with China exceeded USD 85 billion, with exports at USD 16.65 billion and imports at USD 101.75 billion. I urge the government to inform the House about the border situation and the trade deficit. I request permission to raise this matter," he added.
On the other hand, Congress MPs Amar Singh and Hibi Eden have given notices for adjournment motions in Lok Sabha "demanding accountability" for the deaths of three IAS aspirants in Delhi's coaching centre.
"I hereby give notice of my intention to ask for leave to move a motion for the adjournment of the business of the house for the purpose of discussing a definite matter of urgent importance, namely: demanding accountability for the deaths of three IAS aspirants who died due to waterlogging in a building housing a coaching centre in Delhi's Old Rajinder Nagare area," Amar Singh stated.
Congress MP Hibi Eden in his notice urged to discuss the "matter of urgent importance," where three students lost their lives.
"I hereby give notice of my intention to ask for leave to move a motion for the adjournment of the business of the house for the purpose of discussing a definite matter of urgent importance, namely: To discuss the tragic and unfortunate incident where three students lost their lives in a coaching centre located in Delhi. This incident, which occurred due to the flooding of the basement in the coaching centre, is a glaring example of gross negligence and mismanagement by the concerned authorities," he stated.
The leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, had also criticised the lack of planning at every level that had caused the deaths of three students.
On Saturday, three UPSC aspirants lost their lives at an IAS coaching centre in West Delhi's Old Rajinder Nagar after the basement was flooded with water.
The budget session of Parliament began on July 22 and, according to schedule, will end on August 12. (ANI)
