New Delhi [India], July 28 (ANI): Launching a scathing attack on the AAP-led government in the national capital over the deaths of three students following flooding in a coaching centre in Old Rajinder Nagar, Congress leader Pawan Khera said that this is a man-made tragedy.
Calling the Delhi government "insensitive", the Congress leader said, "This is a man-made tragedy. It is not a natural disaster. How a coaching centre was running in the basement? Did they have licenses? Did they have all the papers from MCD? We have not got answers to these questions."
"It is very easy to question each other and make allegations and counter-allegations but the common man is suffering in this. Such an insensitive government in the national capital is extremely wrong, be it MCD or the government," he added.
Earlier, Delhi Minister Gopal Rai on Sunday said that the government has given instructions to speed up the investigation into the deaths of three students following flooding in a coaching centre in Old Rajinder Nagar.
"It is very unfortunate the way the incident took place. For this, the government has given instructions to investigate it at a fast pace. An investigation is underway to find out the reason for this," Rai said while speaking to ANI.
He further said that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has also given instructions to take immediate action against the illegal coaching institutes running in the basement of a building.
Meanwhile, the students are holding massive protests in Delhi's Old Rajender Nagar area over the deaths of the three UPSC aspirants.
The bodies of the deceased were sent to the RML Hospital for an autopsy. The victims who died in the incident have been identified as Shreya Yadav, a native of Ambedkar Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni from Telangana; and Nivin Dalwin, a resident of Kerala's Ernakulam, told DCP Central M Harshavardhan told ANI.
Students are demanding immediate action against the authorities over the incident.
Delhi police also arrested two persons, the owner and coordinator of the IAS coaching centre, where basement flooding due to rains claimed the lives of three students.
The Central Delhi incident comes days after a UPSC aspirant was electrocuted on a waterlogged street in the national capital. (ANI)
