Mamata corners BJP on fuel price, rupee depreciation

Siliguri (West Bengal) [India], Oct 4 (ANI): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday came down heavily on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and called the party "anti-people". She also criticised the party on the fuel price hike and depreciation of rupee against the US dollar.
Addressing a gathering, Banerjee highlighted the "anti-people" policies of the Centre - ranging from the demonetisation, increase of excise duty, fuel price hike, National Register of Citizens of India ( NRC) in Assam, increase of tax component on petrol, cow vigilantism to sinking value of rupee against the US dollar.
"I have not seen such type of government at the Centre. I have been Member of the Parliament for the seventh time and was a minister of three different ministries so I know how work is done," Banerjee said.
She also criticised the law and order situation in some of the BJP-ruled states. "I did not come to you for votes. We do not support them who politicise issues during the elections and create division. Who was responsible to create unrest in the Hills? I do not want to take the name. You will cast votes with your own choice. Did you ever face any such problems in the state? Did you get any impact of violence here? We are against any attempt of the division of communities on the religious grounds," she said.
The Chief Minister also announced that a Hindi university will be set up for the region and appealed to the traders to register their names for two-day long ' 'Bengal Global Business Meet' beginning on February 7 next year.
Meanwhile, Banerjee also expressed dismay over the delay in the inauguration of the circuit bench.
"The state government has completed all the necessary work for the bench. It should be inaugurated at the earliest. I do not know the reason for the delay. The reason could be political, " she said. (ANI)
