Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], April 17 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak on Thursday attacked West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee over Murshidabad violence and said that the TMC chief is trying to provoke people in the state.
"Mamata Banerjee is trying to provoke people and she will have to pay the price for this. BJP will win with full majority in the next Assembly Elections in West Bengal," Pathak told ANI.
Earlier today, West Bengal BJP President and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar met West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose along with the victims of Murshidabad violence.
Governor Bose said that he will visit Murshidabad tomorrow (Friday) to take stock of the violence-hit area.
"I am going to the field to see for myself the realities of the field. I will have an objective view of the matter. The situation has been brought under control. We should take further steps to prevent similar instances in future. I will certainly visit Murshidabad...People from the area have requested to have a BSF camp there", Bose said while addressing a press conference here today.
The West Bengal Governor said that Raj Bhavan will do everything possible for the victims in collaboration with the Union and the State Governments.
Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that she will also visit Murshidabad later.
"I will go to Murshidabad. An SIT has been formed to investigate the unrest in Murshidabad. The state government will build houses for the victims. The Administration is trying to restore the confidence of the people of Murshidabad," the West Bengal Chief Minister said.
She also announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the families of those killed in the Murshidabad protest over the Waqf Amendment Act.
Meanwhile, Suvendu Adhikari has filed a petition in the Calcutta High Court on Thursday demanding that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) be assigned to probe the recent violence in Murshidabad district.
Adhikari's petition cited provisions under Section 6 of the NIA Act to request the central agency's intervention. He alleged that the incident involved Bangladeshi elements and posed a serious threat to national security. The matter is expected to be taken up for hearing soon.
Unrest broke out in Murshidabad during protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act on April 11. The law has been a contentious issue in the region. So far, over 150 people have been arrested, and adequate police forces have been deployed in Samserganj, Dhuliyan, and other affected areas. (ANI)
